Yet another episode of gun violence in Orlando, Florida. The events are so frequent that it seems to be losing the shock factor. I worry that this will lead an acceptance that such events are inevitable and that we don’t make efforts to understand what leads to these events and how everyone can help to avoid them.

To compound matters, trust in police has never been lower as a result of a relatively small percentage of police that have acted in a manner that erodes or flat out eliminates trust. The reality is that many police officers are great at their job, and we need police to keep society safe. That is the reality we live in.

In addition, there is no accountability. Brandon Miller was contacted by by Miles to bring his joint to a bar. Miller says that he received that text after he already left to pick him up. Still, he had that message in hand before arriving. He drove up, blocked the car in that Davis or Miles fired into, but he is still suiting up and his coach inferred he had no responsibility in the case. Are you kidding me? Where’s the accountability?

Finally we look foolish internationally, two of the victims at MSU were Chinese. This kind of thing doesn’t happen in China or other countries at anywhere near the level it takes place here in the US. One of the kids is paralyzed. For what, coming to America to pursue an education and get shot while studying? My ex-wife is Chinese and was one of those who came to America for college and while she loves the US, she cannot understand the gun violence or the crime rate in the US.

What is scary, is our police lack the trust of the general public . Guns are available everywhere, and those who commit crimes are treated leniently by the justice system. In China, if you commit a violent crime, you die by execution and your family is sent a bill for the bullet. Miller brings a gun to a drunk man in a heated situation and somehow is being painted as an innocent bystander. If he just turns the car around, and tells Miles to get an Uber, nobody dies. Yet, prosecutors say they have nothing to charge him with, because he has not broken any laws. Do they have the concept of accessory to the crime? What kind of legal system do they have there? Our justice system like our healthcare system is broken.

Steps need to be taken to fix both and that will require sacrifices by all in terms of rights and freedoms. Or we can just keep on doing the same thing. The bodies are piling up, when is enough is enough?
