This kinda came up in the esports thread. I have some rules for an athletic activity to qualify as a sport… curious what you all think

Preemptively — I am not discounting the insane athleticism, determination, and focus required to do many of my non-sport activities. I partake in some of the athletic activities that I exclude as sports.

1. Head to head competition - sorry golf, racing, swimming, etc.
2. Judges cannot be the sole determiner of a winner - sorry gymnastics, competitive cheer, ice dancing, etc
3. Legitimate risk of injury - sorry bowling, video games, axe throwing, archery/shooting, etc. (spare me your anecdotes)
4. Spectator friendly - meaning I can sit in one spot and watch the event (non-track races, golf)
5. No animals - horse racing, polo, dog jumping, etc.
