OFF TOPIC: Why is it so cold in Michigan?

I'm up in Traverse City and it's like 50 degrees out. I thought this was the first day of summer???? Here's the thing -- I don't mind, it's over 100 degrees in Arizona and it feels absolutely wonderful. But why is it so cold here????
