The 2022 season was a unique challenge for Michigan State defensive coordinator Scottie Hazelton. Due to things like suspensions and injuries, the Spartans used 27 defensive starters last season.

He expects 2023 to be much better.

“We have the ingredients to be really, really good on defense,” Hazelton said. “We have the want to, to be really, really good. We have the leaders to be really, really good. As we keep moving forward, we’ll see how the summer goes.”
