Women’s Golf Starts Spring Season this Weekend in Puerto Rico​

East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State's women's golf team opens its Spring season this weekend, playing in the Purdue Puerto Rico Classic at the Grand Reserve Golf Club in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico.

The three-day, 54-hole tournament tees off on Sunday with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start and continues through Tuesday.

Michigan State will tee off starting on the 4th hole, playing alongside host Purdue, along with Auburn and Ole Miss.

THE PURDUE PUERTO RICO CLASSIC FIELD
The highly-competitive 18-team field includes 12 teams ranked among the top-50 teams in the country in the latest NCAA Rankings, including the Spartans at No. 22. The teams playing this weekend include host Purdue (33), Arkansas (2), Auburn (20), Georgia Southern (37), Furman, Iowa State (32), Kansas State (30), Kent State, LSU (16), Michigan State (22), Minnesota (42), North Florida, North Texas, Northwestern (9), Ole Miss (19), UNCW, UTSA and Vanderbilt (15).

ABOUT THE SPARTANS
Michigan State is coming off a Fall 2024 campaign that saw the team finish as the runner-up in two events (the Mary Fossum Invitational and a tie for second place at the Tar Heel Invitational) and finish among the top-five teams three times. Senior Brooke Biermann, who is ranked No. 36 in the national individual rankings, led the team with a 71.17 scoring average over 12 rounds and was the team's top finisher in all four events. She posted two second-place finishes, including an 11-under par 205 at the Mary Fossum Invitational. Classmate Katie Lu was second on the team with a 72.75 average and posted one top-10 finish and three among the top-20, the top finish a tie for 9th place at the Mary Fossum Invitational. Junior Taylor Kehoe was third on the team with a 72.83 average, including one-top and three top-20, her best finish a tie for 9th place at the Mary Fossum Invitational. Sophomore Ana Sofia Murcia was one of four players to appear in all four tournaments during the Fall, carrying a 74.42 scoring average. Freshman Catalina Monroy, who tied for fourth place at the South American Amateur during the winter break, appeared in three tournaments and had a 74.67 scoring average.
