PHILADELPHIA – Michigan State wrestling's season ended at the 2025 NCAA Championships on Thursday night. A trio of redshirt freshmen made their first appearance at the championships with Caleb Weiand, Remy Cotton and Max Vanadia finishing strong rookie seasons in Philly.

No. 33-seeded Weiand dropped a nailbiter in the 125-pound pigtail match to kick-off the tournament. With just seconds on the clock in the third period Weiand looked to score a bout-winning takedown, but time expired before he could convert. In sudden victory Weiand was taken down by Cornell's Marcello Milani to fall 4-1.

Weiand bounced back in the preliminary consolations earning his first career victory at the NCAA championships with an 8-4 decision over Citadel's Gylon Sims. Weiand's season ended in the first round of consolations, falling to No. 19-seeded Cooper Flynn of Minnesota by first period pin. His win over Sims collected the only team points of the tournament for MSU, which finished with 0.5.

No. 31-seeded Cotton hit a double-leg takedown and earned two near-fall against No. 2-seeded Stephen Buchanan (Iowa) in round two to trail just 10-7 but was defeated by major decision, 22-9. Cotton was pinned in the first period of his consolation bout against No. 18-seeded Dillon Bechtold (Bucknell).

No. 31-seeded Vanadia was defeated by fall against No. 2-seeded Wyatt Hendrickson (Oklahoma State), the NCAA leader in the Most Dominant Wrestler standings. Vanadia fell by major decision in the first round of consolations, 11-2, against No. 18-seeded Lance Runyon (Northern Iowa).
