MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Dual season officially ended for Michigan State wrestling on Friday night, falling to intrastate rival Central Michigan, 22-12, at McGuirk Arena.

The Spartans finish the regular season with a record of 4-10 prior to the Big Ten Championships hosted by Northwestern on March 8-9 at Welsh-Ryan Arena.

Friday night's action started at 125 pounds where redshirt freshman Caleb Weiand was taken down in the final 10 seconds of action to narrowly fall by decision. CMU extended its lead to 7-0 with a major decision at 133 pounds.

Michigan State got on the board at 141 pounds when redshirt freshman Jaden Crumpler broke a six-match losing streak with a 4-2 decision over Andrew Austin.

The Chippewas took a 15-3 lead over MSU heading into intermission following a tech fall at 149 and a decision at 157 pounds.

In the final dual of his career, graduate Jay Nivison put three points on the board for the Spartans at 165 pounds. Nivison trailed 1-0 with just 10 seconds remaining in the second period but hoisted the leg of Chandler Amaker and used a trip to score a takedown on the edge of the mat with short time. Two more takedowns for Nivison in the third provided the long-time MAC veteran with a 10-3 victory.

CMU bounced back with a major decision at 174 pounds to take a 19-6 lead over the Spartans.

Redshirt senior Marty Larkin earned his first career victory at 184 pounds, shutting out Adrien Cramer, 6-0, to bring the Spartans within 10 at 19-9. Larkin took a 4- 0 lead following a late second period takedown, earning two more points via getting put in a potentially dangerous position and an escape.

Central Michigan secured the dual victory in the 197-pound bout where Luke Cochran defeated bumped up redshirt junior Luke Daly.

Redshirt freshman Max Vanadia continued to roll late in the season winning a 5-2 decision over Bryan Caves. Vanadia finished the regular season winning five of his last six bouts to go 15-14. A first period takedown was all Vanadia needed to pick up the win.
