RECRUITING Michigan State interested in 2026 West Virginia OLB/DE commit Daiveon Taylor

I wrote this one for the national site, but plenty of Michigan State content included, so I wanted to share here as well.

Class of 2026 three-star outside linebacker Daiveon Taylor has been committed to West Virginia since April and is solid with the Mountaineers, but other schools have been getting involved with him as of late, including MSU.

The Spartans have not offered Taylor yet, but he is planning to get to East Lansing for a game or two this fall, and it would not be surprising if a scholarship offer came at that time.

Michigan State likes him as a defensive end or perhaps he could be an ideal rush end candidate.

HOCKEY MSU Hockey Adds 2024 Recruit

MSU has added a defensemen to help cover the loss of Artyom Levshunov to the NHL. 2003 born Defensemen, Vladislav Lukashevich has been officially announced as part of the MSU roster.

Lukashevich, a 2021 Florida Panthers 4th round pick, comes to the Spartans after a season with the Tri-City Storm in the USHL. Lukashevich is a native of Russia (Magadan) and prior to joining Tri-City was skating in the MHL, the top junior league in Russia, and the feeder league to the professional KHL. Lukashevich came to North America before last season, and originally was committed and signed to play next season with Northern Michigan. However, NMU lost their coach on June 11, allowing Lukashevich to look around for a new home. The Spartans jumped in very quickly, and locked things up, however things have been kept quiet for a few weeks.

Below is an excerpt from The Rink Live about Lukashevich:

Lukashevich ranked third among USHL defensemen with those 43 points and his 11 goals were tied for fourth as he earned All-USHL Second Team honors.

“I thought he was one of the best defensemen in our league and he was arguably our most consistent player on a nightly basis,” Noreen said. “When the puck was on his stick you were completely at ease no matter what kind of pressure he had on him, and I think that’s the ultimate compliment you can give a defenseman.

“He’s smart, he ate a ton of minutes for us, his defending continued to improve and obviously he produced in the offensive zone all season. He went from a guy that didn’t speak a word of English to carrying conversations at the end of the year, and he really took a big step this season.”

I would expect Lukashevich to slot into the top 4 defensemen next season with Matt Basgall, Patrick Geary, and Maxim Strbak or Nicklas Andrews. I also expect he will be on the first power play unit as the point man, by the end of the season, if not the beginning. I have reached out to Lukashevich for more and will update with an article if I can make contact with him.

BASEBALL LHP Joe Dzierwa, who was committed to Vanderbilt out of the portal, withdrew from the portal and is now headed back to MSU

Kendall Rogers

@KendallRogers

@MSUBaseball "LHP Joe Dzierwa, who was committed to Vanderbilt out of the portal, withdrew from the portal and is now headed back to East Lansing for another season. Huge news for Sparty."

Apparently, NIL made a counter-deal and was able to keep Dzierwa.

@Graham_Couch:

My understanding is MSU baseball’s NIL fund; This is Sparta! (through @CGAamerica), had a hand in getting Joe Dzierwa out of the portal and back on the Spartans’ roster.

Dzierwa earned Second Team All-Big Ten honors ... Was second in the B1G in both innings pitched (84.0) and strikeouts (91), third in the B1G overall in WHIP (1.19), third in B1G only in IP (48.2), sixth in B1G only in strikeouts (43), eighth overall in K/9 (9.7), ninth in the B1G overall in ERA (4.07) and tied for 14th in the B1G overall in BB/9 (2.9)

RECRUITING Areas of need for Michigan State football recruiting following OV season

Michigan State football picked up a slew of commitments for its class of 2025 during the month of June, but areas of need for the class still remain.

Now that official visit season is in the rearview mirror, let's take a look at some of the Spartans' biggest remaining needs for this recruiting cycle:

Cal had recently announced a home-and-home series for four-straight seasons against UCLA starting in 2026 through 2029 while Florida will likely need to re-arrange its schedule for 2026 and beyond when the SEC is expected to start a nine-game conference schedule.
