The Big Ten…

… actually has an opportunity coming up to dump some water on this rivalry and cool it down, without even making a big deal about it. Perhaps some DISTANCE is at least one reasonable solution, here’s how simple:

when they expand…. Separate the MSU/UM game. We’ll play at random.

think about it. They are in love with their little UM/OSU “for all the marbles” for lack of a better phrase.

Does MSU have a case or point?

In the third paragraph down it points out something similar to this case regarding a college? My point is UofM has shown a history of having tunnel issues and a lack of security presence. This could also be pushed on the Big Ten for neglecting to address this issue with UofM. The Big Ten and UofM are supposed to do everything they can to protect the fans, coaches and players.

I don’t justify the physical assualts that happened, my only point is I think Michigan State has a point that should be filled and addressed regarding the lack of security and how the tunnel is used.

Hairbutts job

I’m reading all this. Watching all this and wondering just how and why all this “stuff” started happening AFTER it was clear Hairbutts job was in trouble. Losing record to us. Hadn’t beaten Ohio St then all of a sudden he’s a bully and that talk disappears … for now but I don’t think SCum is “back” and I don’t think they beat OSU this year and I doubt if they lose that game that they make the CFP. He’s at best 500 with us and still isn’t better than Ohio St and God how I’d love to see them play Tennessee or Georgia. Absolute slaughter

apropos of nothing here's 5 minutes of Michigan Ohio State fights

No no one should ever swing a helmet

But interesting there wasn't so much outcry and uproar about incidents such as this but then again what do I know I'm not a lying hypocritical snake oil salesman shield for the Detroit media sucking the derriere of the u of m athletic department

At one point ,1:50, you see you a um player punching in Ohio State player as they run out of the tunnel

The Culture of NCAA Football

Has it sunk in yet that the deteriorating Div 1 college football culture has brought us to this point? And college presidents, unable to refuse the money, are responsible for this? Out of greed they have gradually allowed athletes on campus who only want to play sports…and get paid for it. Free college degrees are no longer enough, because these guys are not interested in academics. Or sportsmanship. A wonderful environment for exploitation by opportunists like Harbaugh and his trash NFL culture. More money, in particular gambling money, will only make it worse. We’ve been outwitted, outmatched, and outsmarted again, because we don’t understand the rules yet. Forget the investigations, this is over, our reputation is further tarnished, we will pay $$$ out, lose recruits, and probably watch MSU players go to jail. WHY APOLOGIZE BEFORE THE INVESTIGATION IS COMPLETED? Mel was given bad advice, probably by lawyers, not flaks. An apology these days is seen as a weaklings' admission of guilt, not an honorable exercise. I expect that if someone destroys the Sparty statue this week the reaction in the press will be that "they deserved it". And man, is Harbaugh a slime ball or what?

If I could say something about the game itself,

I was reasonably happy with how it went, especially in the first half. Had we not given them 7 and had we made our two fourth downs, it's a very tight game. People denigrate spread teams that move the ball between the 20s. Well, UM was stopped from being more than a power team that moves the ball well between the 20s.

1. The tackling was excellent throughout the game, especially Grose, whom we will miss.
2. It's quite bad that we don't have a field goal kicker or a backup long snapper. How can that be?
3. The second half non-adjustment is troubling. It was obvious that UM was moving a safety over to Coleman's side. Shouldn't we have thrown over the middle to the tight ends. Weren't slants then made available?
4. I'm not a big fan of Thorne. He doesn't see the field, won't stand in the pocket and is reluctant to throw over the middle. He does not have enough arm strength for the deep out. He does throw a very nice back shoulder fade.
5. For me, after the injuries and Minny game, the drama of the season was whether Tucker could pull the team together and play competitive football in November. That's a success, I think.
6. As for the incident: a couple of charges, probation, some suspensions and a black mark. Also, years of Harbaugh self-righteousness, which is a good thing, as it makes him so much more fun to hate.

Questions for the media

I do not condone the actions of retaliation taken by the MSU players, but I'm really pissed, tired of the Michigan narrative, and tired of the media not pushing back. Sorry for stating the obvious but I just need to get this off my chest.
  1. If Coach Harbaugh is about right and wrong and sportsmanship, why does he allow his players to trash talk on social media leading up to the game, talk on the field during warm ups, during at halftime and then after the game? And how about that team picture on the sideline last year (during the game) when they had the big lead?
  2. What were his two players doing in the middle of the MSU team in the tunnel heading into the locker room? Why weren’t they with their teammates, waiting for MSU to clear before they entered the tunnel?
  3. Why does this seem to keep reoccurring in their tunnel, i.e., OSU, Penn State, but no hard questioning by the local media on the culture of their program?
  4. If Warde Manual is so upset about the conduct of MSU, then why is Juwan still coaching the basketball team? And why does he allow Harbaugh’s players to behave in the consistent manner of poor sportsmanship? See the video posted on this site from OSU game.
I think Jimmy is still pissed that we broke his arm in 1984 and Bobby Morse's punt return sealed the upset victory. I was there that day sitting right next to that infamous tunnel!

Due Process

I've not seen one morsel of info. telling the MSU side of the story. Perhaps for legal reasons....where's due process?

We all have seen the videos. Anyone wonder why our players would react in that way if not provoked? What about the UM players' actions? Maybe they are innocent? But, what if perhaps the UM players started it or even threw the first punch? Would that change the perception? If in fact we just decided to kick some ass for no reason then bring on the punishment, but does anyone believe that's the case?

The fact is we have no real facts. Just Harbaugh playing the innocent victim and video footage that "could" be misleading or not tell the whole story.

Time for a reset?

As a resident nobody from the Great State of Michigan and an MSU alumni/donor/season ticket holder/fan, I'm distressed by how this rivalry has devolved to where we are at this moment. Believe me, I absolutely do not like Michigan and many of their fans. But, these are two World Class institutions with long-standing history, success, and pride in their athletic programs. What's gone on the last 10+ years is juvenile and embarrassing and well beneath what should be expected from leaders, administrators, coaches, players and fans. I think it has to stop - it has honestly lost anything resembling a true respectful rivalry and I think both sides are to blame. Here are some of the things that I think should be done to achieve the reset I think everybody really wants to restore things.

1) Noon game always
2) Social media blackout for players
3) Any media outlet/person that promotes Mike Hart, Devin Bush, old Dantonio clips, the throat slash, or any of the other crap that has gone on the last 10 years should have their credentials yanked for the game. How about we specifically do away with "Happy Trouble With The Snap Day"? We're better than that. Yes, UM fans gloat and whine....but, so have we.
4) Off-season joint community service projects for UM/MSU football players - these kids are friends, peers, former teammates to one another and, to Jim's point, the adults and fans and media have turned it into something it doesn't need to be for them in particular
5) Specific pre/post game scripting of activities and movements with stiff penalties for not following

I love what Coach Dantonio did for this program, specifically for this rivalry. I'll never forget it. I enjoyed thoroughly all of the beatings we gave them. But it's all in the past and is no longer relevant. I don't want to hear/see anything more about -48 yards, Trouble With The Snap, the Spear in the field, etc etc. Just flush it all and move to the next chapter.

I actually thought to myself yesterday that I hope they don't play next year. Unless everyone - fans, media, coaches, administrators - hit the reset button and clean this up, I think it'll just get worse and what does that even look like. Nothing I want to be a part of.....

Here's a lame brain idea!..............

Contact KW3 and ask him to file an assault case against um #90 for assault with intent to commit bodily harm when he intentionally choked him in the 4th quarter in last years game.

The choke is easy to see on replays and certainly is not a "football move" while KW3 was lying on the ground. Walker gets up and he is noticeably holding his throat and trying to get air as he goes back to the huddle.

Thankfully, on the 2nd play after the blatant choke, KW3 rips through the middle of the um line for the game winning TD.

Woud love to have KW3 file suit just to highlight that um players are not angels.

Maybe already discussed, but...

Sorry if this has been posted already.

There is zero to be gained by anyone from MSU bringing this up - but maybe they can plant a seed with some of the intrepid reporters that cover our team. Once the hubbub dies down, reporters may be interested in looking at new angles.

Does anyone find it interesting that Harbaugh has been in the middle of so many of these kinds of issues?
  • Harbaugh vs. Pete Carroll
  • Harbaugh vs. Richard Sherman (or some other Seattle receiver - Honk-gate)
  • Harbaugh vs. Jim Schwartz
  • Harbaugh vs. Neil Enns (ok - that one was outside the cafeteria in 9th grade at Tappan Jr. High - it was a draw, but the "best fight" we junior high kids ever saw - I can't remember what precipitated it)
  • UM vs. OSU in the tunnel 2021
  • UM vs. PSU in the tunnel 2022
  • UM vs MSU in the tunnel 2022
I may be missing some others.

Of course, it goes without saying that responding with violence is stupid. Hey, if you're a fish in a trout pond, and you choose to try and eat a worm that you see dangling in front of you ... that's on you. But everyone here knows that JH is an instigator/troll/whatever who has a long history of causing trouble. It sucks that we are stupid and undisciplined enough to get dragged down - like I said, that's on us. But the notion that this stuff is completely "out of the blue" or unprovoked is simply wrong.
