RECRUITING 2025 quarterback Leo Hannan locks in Michigan State official visit for June

Michigan State will bring a priority quarterback target to campus for an official visit during the weekend of June 7 through June 9.

Class of 2025 three-star signal-caller Leo Hannan will head to East Lansing for his official visit in June, but he will also make the trip to Michigan State on April 20 to watch the Spartans in the Spring Showcase event.

The Servite High School (Anaheim, California) star also made the trek from California to Michigan to check out East Lansing in early-February when MSU hosted its junior day event.

During that first visit last month, Hannan made the tip with his dad, Rob, but his mom, Renee, was unable to make the trip at the time. It is obviously important for Hannan that his mother is also able to see campus and meet with the coaches. She grew up in Cleveland, Ohio and is quite familiar with the Midwest.

“I’m looking forward to all things football," Hannan told Spartans Illustrated. "I want to talk with the coaches as much as I can and really get into their schemes. I could watch film and talk football all day. I also want to get to know some of the other guys from my class and learn as much as possible about them and their stories."

RECRUITING 2025 OT Nolan Davenport enjoys spring visit, eyes official visit with MSU

One of the first prospects the Michigan State football program hosted this spring is class of 2025 three-star offensive lineman Nolan Davenport. The Ohio native was in East Lansing for Michigan State's initial spring practice on Tuesday, March 19.

Davenport, who currently attends Washington High School in Massillon, Ohio, was offered by the Spartans on Feb. 5.

He enjoyed his time on campus, and got to spend quality time one-on-one time with both Michigan State head coach Jonathan Smith and offensive line coach/run game coordinator Jim Michalczik ("Coach M").

Davenport discussed the trip in detail with Spartans Illustrated, and he plans to take an official visit with MSU as well.

"I am definitely going to officially visit Michigan State," Davenport said. "I just have to schedule it."

MEN'S BASKETBALL Michigan State exits NCAA Tournament stage right after 85-69 loss to North Carolina, game recap

The Tar Heels continue to thwart Tom Izzo as he drops to 0-5 all-time against UNC in the NCAA Tournament. Malik Hall and potentially other Spartans become just the second ever class of seniors to play their entire college career in East Lansing and never play in a Final Four under Izzo with the loss as well.

MEN'S BASKETBALL Dr. G&W Helps You Fill Out Your Bracket: Upsets, the Final Four, and who will win it all?

Over the last few years, I have developed a rigorous process to make some math-informed picks for the full tournament. I have finished crunching all of the numbers and the results are below

Here are some general observations.

When I go through the numbers, Houston is the most likely No. 1 seed to make the Final Four and they wound up being my pick to win it all. Purdue is the second mostly likely team to make it, but they are not going to make. Let’s be serious. And putting Tennessee as the No. 2 seed in that region is hilarious. There is some serious choker vibes going on in the Midwest. So, I have No. 3 Creighton advancing.

UConn got a really, really tough draw and I have Auburn (the biggest underdog on the board and my pick as the National Runner Up) knocking them out. In the West, UNC is a really weak No. 1 seed. I have No. 2 Arizona surviving.

In general, the double-digit seeds are weak this year and I predict a lower number of exciting first round upsets. The last three tournaments have been anomalous in this regard. I expect 2024 to regress to the mean.

As for MSU, I have them beating Mississippi State, UNC, and then Alabama before falling to Arizona in the Regional Final. This is purely based on my mathematical analysis. No, really!

The fact is that MSU’s metrics suggest that the Spartans are more similar to a No. 4 or No. 5 seed than a No. 9 seed. The Spartans’ rebounding and defense have been quietly improving. Walker looks fully healthy. The problem is that MSU has struggled to shoot.

Imagine what happens if Akins gets hot, Hoggard is focused, a healthily Walker is in killer mode, and Hall is fully engaged? All of a sudden, this team looks a lot more like the top 5 team we all thought that we would see. My math expects that team to emerge tomorrow.

Will this happen? It is hard to say. But Tom Izzo is still on the bench, and more times than not, this is his time to work some magic.

HOCKEY Four Tickets To Hockey Tomorrow..... SOLD

Please be a Spartan who wants to attend - no resales..... details to be worked out.... but VENMO payment.... then will transfer tickets through MSU App. Posted on other board as well. Section E is in the corner - my understanding is MSU shoots in this end twice.

FOOTBALL Michigan State DB Dillon Tatum discusses new staff: 'We got games to win'

“Our goal is to literally delete everything from the past couple years,” Tatum said after Michigan State’s first spring practice on March 19. “Like you said, pure clean slate. Get rid of all the, just the things that happened that are plain out stupid because we don’t need that energy anymore. New season, basically new team, whole new staff, we got games to win. We got other stuff to focus on.”
