OTHER SCHOOLS: AJ Hoggard Has Picked Vanderbilt As His Destination.

AJ Hoggard is off to Vanderbilt. Though they were 9-23 last year, their new Coach, Mark Byington, comes in from James Madison, bringing new hope for a bright future.

Byington is coming off a historic season at James Madison, leading the Dukes to a program-record 32 wins and the program's first NCAA tournament win since 1983.

Byington saw AJ up close and personal when James Madison beat Michigan State 79-76 on November 6th, 2023, in East Lansing. That night, Hoggard had nine points, three assists, only one turnover, four rebounds, one block, and one steal and hit five of six free throws.

Eight days ago, Vanderbilt was rumored to offer Hoggard in the $800,000 to $1,000,000 range.

HOCKEY Fall 2025 Commit Cullen Potter Decommits

First got a whisper of this happening this morning and now it is reported

Potter is a talented kid, likely going 1st round NHL Draft in Spring 2025. With that said I am fine with this move from a MSU perspective as you can't guarantee top 6 minutes to a player in any case (Hi Christian Humphreys now at Michigan) but certainly not for a kid enrolling a year early. I will say Potter ending up at Arizona State despite all his options will also let you know the other blue bloods weren't interested in that option for 2024 either.

Rising class of 2026 three-star Arizona wide receiver Rico Blassingame tells Spartans Illustrated he has scheduled an unofficial visit with Michigan State for Monday, June 10.

The 6-foot-3, 180-pound Blassingame hasn't reported a scholarship offer from the Spartans yet, but he does already have double-digit offers to his name, with the majority of those being Power Four schools. It would not be surprising to see MSU offer while he is on the trip or at some point in the near future.

He played in all 13 games as a true freshman for the Tigers in 2023, primarily on special teams. He also played defensive snaps in five games. Hughes recorded six tackles.

He is listed as a cornerback on LSU’s roster. He played 179 snaps on specials teams and 39 snaps on defense (primarily as an outside cornerback, 37 snaps) last year.

Hughes has three years of eligibility plus a redshirt if needed.

He was a three-star recruit in the 2023 class out of Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas.

NEW COMMIT: Michigan State lands former UCF Safety Nikai Martinez

Michigan State lands former UCF Safety Nikai Martinez

And he arrives at Michigan State with two years of eligibility remaining

Martinez is a 5-foot-11, 190-pound sophomore is coming off two highly productive seasons for UCF where he posted 75 tackles, three tackles for loss, one sack, six passes defended, and three interceptions.

As a sophomore season for the Knights, he started all 13 games, tied for the team lead in interceptions with three, and was fifth on the team with 54 tackles.

As a true freshman, Martinez played in all 14 games, finishing the season with 21 tackles.

He had many offers besides UCF coming out of high school, including Auburn, Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Penn State, and Notre Dame, but he wanted to stay home as Apopka is a short distance from UCF.

FOOTBALL So of all our new DL, who do you think plays the most snaps?

I know that this is pure guesswork but I don't have a clue about any of these guys except what I read. Last year I thought we had 3 DT coming in who would be major role players and only 1 played much and even he disappointed. I hated to see both Harmon & Barrow go and who knows what the future of AVS is, sounds like he injury was quite severe. So are any of the new guys ready for prime time and if so, who do you think or is it just a roll of the dice. At least they all have multiple years remaining, if that means anything in today's revolving door of college football.

I would like to hear other opinions about our portal pickups.

Like I’ve said before, the coaching staff is going to have to make a lot of important decisions about who are the 1st stringers.

I do have confidence, from I have read, that the staff is up to it.

I also realize that turning a program, not short lived like we recently had, will have ups and downs. What is the general consensus about expectations for the program?
