Michigan State hosted three official visitors this weekend: defensive back Terrance “Deuce” Edwards (three-star West Virginia commit), defensive back Cairo Skanes (two-star Miami OH commit) and Zion Gist (two-star Western Michigan commit)

We’re still waiting to hear back from the official visitors regarding getting their quotes and comments, but here is what I know as of now.

-There have been some predictions coming in from other sites about Edwards flipping to Michigan State, but I have been told that MSU has not received any commitments “at the moment.” With that said, from what I’ve heard, Edwards’ visit went well and a flip is certainly possible here. I like MSU's chances, but he remains committed to West Virginia as of press time, but this is certainly something we’ll be monitoring.

-I have heard that Skanes’ visit also went well and he could he be seriously considering flipping to the Spartans. But again, I have not heard from Skanes himself yet and MSU said no pledges as of right now, so this mostly second-hand info. So again, just something we’re closely monitoring.

- Gist was not at the game against Purdue on Friday because his team had a playoff game on Saturday. He arrived in East Lansing on Sunday to begin his official visit and will leave on Monday. I am hoping to catch up with him then.

-I was told going into the weekend that Michigan State would take both Gist and current running back commit Jace Clarizio if they both want to sign with the Spartans. Of course, Gist is currently committed to WMU and Clarizio is weighing his options between MSU and Alabama.

-Don’t be surprised if Gist and especially Skanes get bumped up to three-stars before they sign with a school. Skanes has been getting many Power Four offers and also officially visited Wisconsin. Going into the MSU visit, he was also planning to visit Duke mid-week of this coming week, but if the Spartans can lock him in, we’ll see you if those plans change.

Michigan State cornerback commit Aydan West officially visited Ohio State this weekend and received an offer from the Buckeyes. He does plan to return to East Lansing this Saturday, Nov. 30, for Michigan State’s regular-season finale against Rutgers. My understanding is that OSU is working through some things with what it wants to do with the defensive backs in its class. It will be interesting to see how hard they push for West, but an offer from the Buckeyes is obviously huge for West (and shows off MSU’s ability to evaluate and get commitments from top talent early). As was discussed previously, West also took a recent official visit to Virginia Tech.

-I’ve mentioned this before, but Michigan State plans to take a lot of defensive backs between the 2025 class and transfer portal. MSU will also be especially active in the portal when it comes to offensive linemen, wide receivers and rush ends/pass rushers. The Spartans will look to get better at most positions, though.

-As for the total 2025 class size for high school/JUCOs, Michigan State is expecting to sign 18-20 kids during the early period on Dec. 4. However, it could obviously come in a little bit higher or lower than that number as MSU currently sits at 15 commitments and won’t reach to fill a number. Depending on what the Spartans still needs at the time, MSU could look to sign more prospects during the February signing period as well.
