The event had a Fort Wayne focus with guys like Robertson, Mack, and Skowronek. There was an obvious effort to keep the event in the city, as an opportunity to generate exposure for kids in Ft. Wayne. The Southside location at a facility like The Summit made it easy for local kids to attend without potential travel issues. While true to its local roots the RAS Camp also featured kids from 10 states including Indiana.
Canada was also represented with Luiji Vilain, who plays high school football in Virginia. Robertson beat out Vilain for d-line MVP. I didn't see a lot of drill work because I had family obligations earlier in the day, but Vilain had a good day by all accounts.
Lot of buzz about him and Rutgers, but Vilain is a guy that I could see Michigan State making a run for given that he has been on campus a couple of different times including last summer. It will be interesting to see if he is back this summer. He tested real well last year.
Western Michigan all-purpose back D'Wayne Eskridge is going be a real pain in the ass at the next level. He is state-champion sprinter and big-play threat in football. Not sure why Eskridge didn't get more interest from the two in-state Big Ten schools. I think he would a real problem in the offense Indiana runs. I don't know if grades are an issue, but Western will be fortunate to hang on to him if he keeps tearing up camps like like the RAS.
South Bend senior Brandon Wadley was among the top uncommitted players at the Camp. He is way under the radar. Would not be surprised if we spot him at one of MSU's camps this summer. He is going to be a steal for someone. Michigan State won't have room, but some of MAC schools working MSU's camps this summer will probably offer. Former Spartan Herb Haygood was keeping tabs on Wadly.
Missouri receiver Henry Ballard is a name to know. He is a two-sports standout, with tremendous speed. Don't understand why Iowa wouldn't be all over this guy. Ballard has Bennie Fowler speed. Michigan State has an outstanding receiver class and Donnie Corley is the top uncommitted target on the war room, but Ballard can flat-out fly and I can see him being a difficult match-up in an offense like Paul Chryst's at Wisconsin.
