By finishing second out of four teams in today's NCAA Regional Final, Michigan State will advance to the NCAA Women's Gymnastics Championship for just the second time in program history and for the first time since 1988.

No. 8 seed MSU finished with a 198.000 -- a very good score -- which was just .05 points behind top-seeded LSU, who was the other team to advance. Kentucky and Arkansas finished third and fourth, respectively, and were eliminated.

The Spartans will compete in the national semifinal on April 17 in Fort Worth, Texas and will have to finish in the top two again to advance to the final. Their opponents will be LSU again and then the top two of the other regional that features UCLA, Minnesota, Utah and Denver.

It will also be the program's best finish in history, no matter what. Twelve teams made the NCAA Championships back in 1988, and MSU finished 12th. Now, only eight teams get in.
