We've discussed this topic at length before but has there ever been a time when MSU's brand has been stronger? I work at a small college in Dallas and one of my students approached me earlier this week and asked me for a letter of recommendation. When I asked him where it was going, he told me "Michigan State University's criminal justice program." I was floored as I was guessing he would say something like SMU. When I asked him why MSU, he said because they have one of the best criminal justice programs in the country. And then he said "plus I LOVE that football team!"
It's really incredible how far Coach D has taken this program. I remember looking at the schedule in the preseason and counting "should-be wins." Conservatively, I could usually get to 6. Can you imagine doing that now?! It's also great to hear how much respect MSU gets academically. I was at a conference a while back and a colleague asked me where I went to school. When I told him he responded with "Oh, that's such a great school." (He was from UT-Austin in case that matters.)
Since the Final Four, I've spotted at least a dozen hats/shirts around campus. I'm interested to hear how those of you who live outside the region see things? Is there a little more green nationally? More importantly, what do things look like back home? When I left in 2009, the Detroit/Flint/Grand Rapids/"Up North" regions were pretty blue. What are things like now?
GO GREEN!
